Let's Chat About Rhaine

We believe looking good shouldn’t come at the cost of the planet. Our goal has always been simple: to make designer fashion accessible, but in a way that’s more thoughtful and less wasteful.

We started out wanting to make it easy for people to rent designer clothes instead of buying them. But along the way, I noticed something that didn’t feel right. These stunning dresses, made by designers who pour hours of effort and creativity into every detail, were being forgotten as soon as trends changed. It felt wrong for something so beautiful to end up sitting unused or tossed aside.

Fashion moves way too fast. Keeping up with trends is almost impossible unless it’s your whole life. And honestly, constantly chasing “the latest thing” doesn’t fit with what sustainable fashion is about. Fast fashion will always be quicker and cheaper, but that doesn’t mean it’s better.

There’s something really special about designer clothes. It’s not just the name on the tag or the price, it’s the passion, the craftsmanship, and the story behind every piece. Designers are artists. They create clothes that let us express who we are and make us feel incredible when we wear them. But when I started to see how much waste the fashion industry creates, it changed how I saw things.

Every year, over 200,000 tonnes of clothing are thrown away in Australia, that's roughly the same as four Sydney Harbour Bridges worth of fabric. It’s wild. And it’s not just about waste, it’s about the way fashion has lost touch with its value. The love and time that go into making a garment are often overshadowed by a system that’s built for speed and profit.

I still love designer fashion, always will, but I think it can be part of the solution, not the problem. That’s what Rhaine is about now.

Some dresses come back from hire with broken zips, stains that won’t come out, or they just stop being popular. And that’s okay. Instead of throwing them away, I’m learning how to upcycle them, to turn them into something new. I’m not a pro with a sewing machine (not even close), but that’s part of the fun. It’s a way to put sustainability to the test and learn as I go.

You can still rent beautiful pieces from our website, but now, you can also follow along as I experiment, remake, and reimagine what fashion can be. Once these pieces are recreated, they’ll be available to rent or buy again, ready for their next story.

This journey isn’t about being perfect, it’s about progress. If you’ve got ideas, want to share your own upcycling story, or just cheer from the sidelines, I’d love to have you along.

So here’s my invite:

Find something in your wardrobe that’s been sitting there unloved, and give it another go. I’ll be right there learning (and probably unpicking stitches) alongside you.

Let’s make fashion something we can feel proud of again, one dress at a time.

WHAT IS A CIRCULAR ECONOMY?

Our approach here is grounded in the principles of a circular economy, a system designed to eliminate waste and make the most of resources. Unlike the traditional model of "take, make, dispose," our circular economy focuses on keeping high-quality garments in use for as long as possible, reducing the need for new resources, and minimising environmental impact.

1. Sourcing Designer Clothing

Our circular journey begins with the creation of luxury garments by talented designers. These pieces are crafted with care, using high-quality materials that are meant to last. The artistry and craftsmanship involved in each piece make them valuable beyond a single season or trend.

2. Luxury Garments Rented

Rather than allowing these beautiful creations to sit unused in a closet, we make them available for rent. This model allows multiple individuals to enjoy the same piece of designer fashion, spreading the environmental impact of production over a longer period and more uses.

You can rent these garments for special occasions, events, or simply to experience the joy of wearing something luxurious. Each time a piece is rented and worn, it fulfills its purpose without the need for additional production.

3. Garments Returned

After being worn, the garments are returned to us. We carefully inspect and maintain each piece to ensure it remains in pristine condition, ready to be rented again. This step is crucial in extending the life of the garment and ensuring it continues to bring joy to many more people.

4. Garments Upcycled or Recycled

When a garment eventually reaches the end of its rental life, it doesn’t go to waste. Instead, we work with small business designers and artisans to upcycle or recycle these pieces. This process transforms worn-out garments into new, creative products, breathing new life into materials that might otherwise be discarded.

The upcycled materials are used to create unique, innovative fashion items. These new creations continue the cycle, entering the rental market as fresh, desirable pieces with their own stories to tell.

DESIGNER DRESS HIRE FOR EVERY OCCASION

The result of our circular economy is a significant reduction in fashion waste. By keeping garments in use longer and finding new purposes for them when they can no longer be rented, we minimise the environmental impact of fashion. Our model not only reduces waste but also promotes sustainability, helping to protect the planet for future generations.
